Instruction, Responsibilty and Safety Training---NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation
to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes
classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type.
This is an Instructor
Level Course where you become certified to teach using the policies & procedures of the NRA training department. This
is a 16+ hour/two day course. The course includes Basic Instructor Training (BIT) & NRA Basic Pistol Instructor.
It is required that this pre-course range assessment be completed
prior to attending the Pistol Instructor Course. PRE-COURSE RANGE
A total assessment score minimum of 80% is necessary in order to attend an Instructor course
· Complete exam and score at least 90%
· Safely load and unload all
available demonstration firearms, covering at least:
· A revolver
· A semi-auto pistol
· Complete pistol shooting exercises as follows:
· Two-handed standing position
· ‘Random’ (TC
· Must shoot 5 rounds into a 4" circle from 10',
15' & 20'. Must shoot 10 rounds into a 10" circle from 45"
Course begins at lesson six taking into
consideration that Basic Instructor Training (BIT) covers lessons 1-5
